EVENT: Communicating COVID-19: Journalism’s role in the ongoing pandemic

Washington Post President and Publisher Philip L. Graham once described journalism as “the first rough draft of history.” In the case of COVID-19, creating the first draft has been especially challenging given the lack of information, conflicting opinions, polarized political stances, and a severe and sustained public health threat.
The Wayne State University Alumni Association presents a virtual panel discussion moderated by Matthew Seeger, Dean of the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts, on the role of journalism in a public health crisis, the impact of critiques on the credibility of journalists, the development of misinformation and rumors, and the outsized role of social media.
