This position will be in office the first few weeks with a hybrid schedule after that.

The Detroit Jewish News, is a Zionist weekly newspaper dedicated to preserve, protect and sustain the Jewish people of Metro Detroit, the state of Michigan and beyond — with a special dedication to the State of Israel. Since 1942, the Detroit Jewish News has been nationally recognized for serving the Jewish community with news and opinion that’s engaging, educational, enjoyable and unique — focusing on world and national affairs, community news, religion, lifestyle, arts and lifecycle events.

The Detroit Jewish News recently transitioned into nonprofit ownership as part of the Detroit Jewish News Foundation, a 501c3 charitable organization. In addition to publication of the Detroit Jewish News, the Foundation also is responsible for the William Davidson Digital Archive of Jewish Detroit History.

The Assistant Editor, reporting to the Director of Editorial Services, will assist the planning and execution of the paper’s print and online coverage with a team of on-staff and freelance journalists, as well as planning, writing and editing stories to inform and inspire members of the Jewish and general community. The Assistant Editor will from time to time represent the paper publicly in the community.

Qualifications and skills: Qualified candidates will have a degree in journalism, communications or the equivalent degree, a portfolio of published articles, as well as at least three years of experience writing and editing at a print or digital publication. A deep understanding of the Jewish community is essential.

Pay: $40,000.00 – $50,000.00 per year
