Meet Marty

President
Marty is the director of community engagement at Detroit PBS, part of the station’s award-winning journalism team. After 30-plus years as a working journalist, he took a slight detour in his career to serve as Managing Director of the University of Michigan’s Taubman Medical Research Institute. Before that, he was an assistant managing editor of The Detroit News, where he worked for 20 years, and executive editor of Detroit Monthly magazine. He is the recipient of many honors including the William White Award for editing the nation’s best city magazine and the University of Missouri Lifestyle Award for best features section. A graduate of Wayne State University, Marty began his journalism career by writing the “Detroit Guide,” a 500-page book about his hometown.
