The Detroit Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and the University of Michigan Wallace House Center for Journalists hosted a meeting with Chris Baxter, the founding editor of Spotlight PA, the award-winning and highly acclaimed independent, nonprofit newsroom covering the state of Pennsylvania.

The event took place on a cold, near-blizzard evening in Detroit, yet nearly two dozen journalists from across the media spectrum showed up to hear Baxter on January 14 at the popular Corktown restaurant, Supergeil.

Baxter spoke of the origins of Spotlight PA, its encouraging growth, its approach to journalism, the collaborations it has spawned and its plans for the future. His talk was followed by a lively round of questions from the assembled journalists, as they considered how to apply the lessons of Spotlight PA to the local news coverage in Detroit and Michigan.
