There have been proposed revisions to the SPJ Code of Ethics that will be voted on during the national conference next weekend. The SPJ Detroit Board has set up time with Chad Painter, who is a member of the SPJ Ethics Committee and the chair of the University of Dayton’s communications department, to go over the revisions and answer any questions you may have.

SPJ is widely known for the Code of Ethics, which was created in 1948. It has been called the “gold standard” for journalism ethics and remains the world’s most-cited media ethics code.
Now, changes in journalism – how it is produced, consumed, attacked and understood in a new era of information and communication technologies – have led SPJ’s Ethics Committee to conclude that it is time to consider revising the Code.
